Naming your new baby should be one of the simplest things to do, and yet it is often one of the most difficult.  While the last name is normally an easy and obvious decision, choosing a first and a middle name for your baby might not be so simple.  Especially when you have the opinions of both you and your partner, not only battling each other, but also Aunt Flo and Grandma Gertrude who both believe you should name your baby after them.

A trend that has been around for centuries, but that seems to be picking up popularity in recent years, is giving a new child more than one middle name.  There is no stated rule that says you can only have one middle name, or even that you have to have a middle name at all.  In order to make both parents happy, and to honor family members who are both alive and have already passed, couples are turning to giving their child two or more middle names.

A mouthful

Some people wonder if having more than one middle name is too much for a child.  In reality, it probably doesn’t make that much of a difference.  Most kids do not use their middle name on a daily basis, even if they know it.  However, it may be a mouthful for even an adult to say, especially if you are naming your son after his daddy which would lead you to add on a Sr and a Jr to the end of the name.  Kids like being unique however, especially as they get older, so giving your child multiple middle names may help them feel like they are special as teens and make them feel like they have an identity all their own.

Celebrity middle names

Giving a baby multiple middle names is a trend that has been picked up by celebrities who want their children to represent something important to them, so that the whole world knows.  It is becoming a popular thing for celebrities to do, which means it will probably continue to gain in popularity for the rest of the world.  We have compiled some great examples of celebrity babies with muliple middle names for you:
